TheBalm Mini Haul

I have heard so many wonderful things about this brand over the past couple weeks, so I decided to have a snoop around the website. I didn't want to go crazy on my first purchase (even though there are so many things that I wanted to add to my shopping cart) just in case I was unhappy with the quality of the brand.

So I purchased two products
The "Naughty" Nude Tude Palette - A collection of natural eyeshadow, which is probably one of their most prominent products at the moment.

&

The Meet Matt(e) Palette - A collection of entirely Matte eyeshadow

pros
ADORABLE packaging XD they have come up with some very witty and fun Pin up designs

The eyeshadow in the Nude Tude palette is beautifully pigmented and has a very silky, buttery texture. I am very impress with its quality!

The variety of color in both palettes are quite good.

Both come with double sided brushes - although personally I would not use these as I have other brushes that I prefer to use. However they are convenient for on the go.

The packaging is not only very cute, but very sturdy and environmentally friendly (which is a massive pro for me)

cons
The eyeshadow in the Meet Matt(e) palette however I was not completely content with the pigmentation and found the formula a bit chalky. With the paler colors such as Matt Smith, Matt Gallagher and Matt chung I find the lesser pigmentation more acceptable in terms of a blending device.

I would have liked a larger quantity of eyeshadow. Its not so small that I am going to run out anytime soon but a bit more product wouldn't go amiss.

All over I do think they are good value. Whether or not I would repurchase them, I would the Nude Tude but probably not the Meet Matt(e). Thats not to say I regret buying it, just that I don't find it a necessary addition to my collection.

Book Review - Chocolat by Joanne Harris

chocolat

by

joanne harris

How do I describe the small country town of  Lansquenet-sous-Tannes?
Individualism, indulgence, artistic expression and rebellion ?.......no
Try confirmatory, conservative, traditional, trapped in a time-loop which holds high the values of typical Christian ideals. This little town is in for a shocking surprise when the wind blows in the eccentric, opinionated an lively Vianne Rocher.

So here is where the dramatic battle begins.
One simple thought. One simple decision. Where would your allegiance lie.

church or chocolate ??

So I am going to start this review by saying that ...
Yes! I have seen the film
Yes! I did love it to bits
Yes! I would recommend it
Good movie, Great actors.

Ever since I saw the film I have intended to read the book and finally three years later (how time flies) I have. I was not in any way shape or form disappointed in this book after reading. It is very well written with vivid detailing and intriguing characters.

It is probably also important to mention that equally my appreciation for the film has not waned after reading the book. Whilst aspects of the book have been adapted to cater to representation on screen, the concept and effect of these have not been demolished or twisted beyond recognition.

The most apparent example of this is the character of Armande Voizin. There was not one moment in reading the book that I could not see Judi Dench standing right in front of me or hear her raspy cackle.   spot on !!

Contraire to this, is the strikingly dark and seductive character of Roux and his relationships with Vianne, Armande and Josephine. I am not going to spoil things for you by giving away vital parts of the story line, but it can be safely said that Johnny Depp's calm, easy going version of this River Gypsy is defiantly much less complex of a character as our book Roux. Although both are very desirable in their own little ways!!

All over it was a wonderful, but not necessarily your typical romance book.
And guess what.... it has a sequel!!

Sydney IMATS Haul XD

Today I took a trip to the harbor in Sydney to the Convention and exhibition centre for the Sydney IMATS 2012. Down below are some of the products that I purchase. I have only included products that I am 100% satisfied with, as sadly after buying I was disappointed with the quality of some products. I have also not included any brushes that I purchased. All over I was expecting more stalls at the exhibition but I found lots of things i loved so I cant complain.

LASplash Cosmetics Liquid Eye Liners
(From Left to Right: Pink Sparkles, Royal Blue and Silver Dollar)

It is not a brand I had heard about before but I am sure I want to go back and get some more!
They were about $7 each (cheap) and have great pigment. The brush applicator is very thin, although I didn't take a photo because my camera couldn't focus (just shows you how small it was )

Makeup For Ever Aqua Creams
(From Top to bottom: #02 and #16)

At $27 a piece, these were a little more on the pricey side. They are very creamy, pigmented and the color spreads very evenly (no clumping or gooping). They are great quality an I can see that they will last for a long time. Super excited to use #16, the beautiful rose-gold shade, for summer

Ben Nye Powder Rouge
(From Left to Right: Blushing Bride, Dusty Pink, Vintage Rose and Pink Bliss)

I got these for $10 a piece - I mean what a bargain. They are a good size and have great pigment. The powder is a little bit more loose than blushes I have used in the past but that makes it quite easy to blend. Im not a big fan of dark or very vibrant blushes as I already have a lot of colour in my cheeks, but the range I saw had a lot of calmer colours. Nice and light for summer.

Naked Cosmetics
(From Top to Bottom: Mother Nature and Blushing Bronze)

I have not yet used these before but am very eager to do so. I have heard very good reviews from both friends and beauty gurus online. They can be used over the top of an eyeshadow to ad extra vavava voom and dimension to the eye. Or you can apply it wet making the shadows a very intense metallic colour.

Book Review - Tuesdays With Morrie By Mitch Albom

tuesday's with morrie
by
mitch albom

I loved this biography because it isnt like a lot of the other books that I tend to pick up. Typically I gravitate towards text book romance, fantasies, things set in different places and eras. It makes it interesting and exciting to escape into a world so very different from my own.

But for some reason this book really did stand out to me. So I took a chance and flipped to a random page about half way through and was so incredibly stunned and moved by what I read that I bought it immediately!

The story centers around an old, eccentric college professor who shockingly discovers that he has a terminal illness. With less that one year to live, Morrie does just that ....

He really lives .

Rather that dig himself a deep hole of self pity and remorse he concentrates all of his energy into appreciating the blessings that life has bestowed on him and sending a message onto the masses of the world that death is not something that should be feared but rather acknowledged and accepted. The fact that we know we are going to die just makes living all the more sweet and worthwhile.

I know this all does sound rather morbid but honestly its probably one of the most upbeat, given the circumstances, books I've read and its all because of Morrie's unique spirit.

Whilst its not an epic romance riddled with dashing hero's and blushing maiden's, it does posses some very heroic and romantic ideals

It is a beautifully composed piece, put together by a student and close friend of Morrie.

Give it a go I guarantee you will not be let down!

Summer Jewellery Haul

Summer is just starting to creep around the corner here in Aussie.

finally

Is it just me or did it really feel like winter went for half a lifetime. We've had some really nice sunny days lately, spoiled a little by cool breezes, but they carry the scent of a promising summer.
I suppose I got a little excited with the anticipation and bought a couple things to life my summer spirit.

sandals : I am growing fonder and fonder of these little shoes-ies. They are as comfy and breezy as a good old pair of flip flops, but about 100x more gorgeous. I bought these shoes from a store called Freelance. These shops are pretty much everywhere. I have another similar pair in a bight sky blue from the same store that I bout about 1 year ago and they are still in great shape.

bracelets : Layering bracelets is an escalating trend ....especially in the summer. I usually stick with silvers, but I couldn't resist this stunning bright gold set. I really love that it's divided by the chain, it gives the illusion of more bangles and more color....who can complain with that :P !!!

rings : Glaming things up for the summer, to me, means big and bold. I especially love the flower ring as the little crystals in it catch and reflect the light beautifully - classy, elegant, very feminine. The leaf ring really slims down my fingers - nice and dainty.

All of the jewelery comes from a store called Lovisa. They recently opened up in my local shopping centre, thought I would check it out. In my opinion it's not all that different from diva, although they were a little larger and definitely had a larger selection of rings
